BUILDING HEALTHIER COMMUNITIES

As Australia’s largest not-for-profit health fund, HCF has a social mission to build healthier communities by helping to address important social issues, impacting health outcomes.

ROYAL FLYING DOCTOR SERVICE (SA/NT)

Our major partnership with the Royal Flying Doctor Service SA/NT (RFDS) helps improve access to essential healthcare and better health outcomes for people living in regional, rural and remote communities across South Australia and the Northern Territory.

We believe everyone should have access to affordable, quality healthcare, regardless of where they live. That’s why we’re working alongside RFDS SA/NT, as well as governments, healthcare providers and community partners, to address health inequities experienced by families and communities living in the bush.

Through our renewed 3-year partnership, we’re helping ensure the Flying Doctor can continue delivering life-saving care to some of Australia’s most isolated communities.

Our support helps fund the aircraft and equipment needed to deliver emergency aeromedical services, primary healthcare and other essential health services to around 50,000 people across central Australia each year.

THE SMITH FAMILY

We know education is essential to breaking the cycle of poverty and improving long-term health outcomes, which is why we’ve established a major 3-year partnership with The Smith Family, a national children’s education charity.

Our financial commitment will enable 1,500 young students across Australia to be part of the Learning for Life program, providing them with long-term financial, personal and practical educational support to reach their full potential.

NETBALL AUSTRALIA

Our national partnership with Netball Australia supports our mission to improve the health and wellbeing of all Australians, particularly young females, by empowering them to stay active in sport and lead healthier lives.

This partnership is not just about supporting Australia’s favourite sport for women and girls, it’s about working with players and communities to drive awareness of and support the health issues that are specifically important to women.

The HCF and Netball Australia partnership supports over one million players across the country – from grassroots to elite levels. From our initial Principal Partnership with GIANTS Netball, we are now also a Major Partner of Suncorp Super Netball, Premier Partners of the Melbourne Vixens and Official Partners to Adelaide Thunderbirds, NSW Swifts, Queensland Firebirds, Sunshine Coast Lightning and West Coast Fever as well as the state Member Organisations across Australia.

We know netball is more than just the players on court! So, we’ve expanded our support to celebrate the passionate teams behind these teams who go above and beyond each week for the netball community. Throughout the season, we’ve been celebrating the coaches, managers, administrators, umpires, canteen crews and volunteers who demonstrate uncommon care. Netball wouldn’t be the sport it is today too without parents and family members – the orange cutters, drivers, hair stylists and backyard-drill partners – who support our netballers every week.

Just like the netball community consistently goes above and beyond for this sport, HCF –  Australia’s largest not-for-profit health fund – puts members’ health before anything else. HCF and Netball Australia, united by uncommon care.

Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute

The Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute is dedicated to fighting cardiovascular disease through research. Like us, it's not-for-profit.

Through this partnership, we provided more than 4,000 free heart health checks to members last year.

Members with hospital and extras cover can make an appointment at selected locations and dates, to receive a simple blood pressure, total cholesterol and average blood sugar test from a registered nurse and get the results on-the-spot.

International Consortium for Outcomes Measurement (ICHOM)

ICHOM is a not-for-profit organisation that works with healthcare systems around the world to measure and report on the effectiveness of medical treatment from a patient perspective.

The HCF Research Foundation, which shares this focus on improving health outcomes, has formed a strategic partnership with ICHOM. We’re working together to fund research and develop measurement tools to assess patient experiences in three areas: pregnancy and childbirth, oral health, and hip and knee osteoarthritis.

Understanding how well treatments improve previous patients’ symptoms, and their overall quality of life, can help others considering the treatment to better understand how it may work for them. The benefits for hospitals and doctors include identifying best practice and areas for improvement. The wider goal is creating a more efficient and effective health system for all Australians.
