Need help to find the best health insurance for you?

We've answered some of your most common questions to help you feel more confident you've made the right choice.

As everyone’s life stage and health needs are different, so is the type of health cover someone might need.

That's why there are 4 types of private health cover:

HCF offers a range of hospital and extras covers so that customers can choose the one that meets their needs based on the services they want to be covered for, and their budget. As an HCF member, you can always change and upgrade your level of cover as your health needs change^^^.

Unlike Medicare, private hospital cover allows you to choose your specialist and the hospital you’re treated in. Plus, it can help reduce waiting times for elective surgeries and out-of-pocket medical costs depending on your level of cover. Some specialists will operate out of certain hospitals, and the gap you pay for the hospital costs may be different depending on whether they are a participating hospital.

Benefits of selecting your own doctor or hospital

HCF private health insurance can allow you to choose your own doctor, reduce wait times on elective surgeries, cover you for emergency ambulance services, give you more benefits towards non-MBS services like dental and optical, and lower out-of-pocket costs through our participating providers.

Medicare covers things like visits to GPs, specialists, most prescription medicines under the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS), and public hospital treatments.
